Ethiopian frankincense are highly favored by churches due to their affordability. Each year, thousands of tons of this frankincense are exported from Ethiopia. Notably, it is one of the few types of frankincense, alongside Boswellia occulta, that contains incensol and octanol—two terpenes known to activate the TRPV3 channel, which is thought to bring an enlightening quality to the incense, metaphorically illuminating one's inner self.

This particular Ethiopian frankincense is of the highest quality, featuring medium-sized tears. However, it’s important to note that Boswellia papyrifera trees, which produce this resin, are suffering from overharvesting. While we aim to offer a wide variety of frankincense, we recommend using Sudanese frankincense as an alternative. The trees in Sudan are in better condition, with no overharvesting concerns.
